Taking Skating Skills to the Next Level

 

CanSkate Plus is designed for skaters who have successfully completed CanSkate Stage 4 and are ready for more advanced instruction.

As skaters progress through the CanSkate program, the skills become more challenging. CanSkate Plus provides a smaller group setting, allowing coaches to spend more one-on-one time helping each skater refine their technique and continue progressing with confidence.

With a maximum ratio of 5 skaters per coach, participants receive personalized instruction while continuing to enjoy the fun, active learning environment that makes CanSkate so successful.

Is CanSkate Plus Right for My Skater?

CanSkate Plus is recommended for skaters who:

✔ Have successfully completed CanSkate Stage 4

✔ Are confident skating independently

✔ Want to continue improving their skating skills

✔ Are interested in building a strong foundation for figure skating, hockey, ringette, or recreational skating

What Will My Skater Learn?

CanSkate Plus continues to build on the three fundamental skating skills:

• Balance – Stronger forward skating and edge control

• Control – Improved backward skating, stopping, and power

• Agility – More advanced turns, jumps, and coordination

As skaters progress, they continue working through the CanSkate stages while developing the confidence and technique needed for future skating goals.

Smaller Groups = More Individual Attention.

One of the biggest advantages of CanSkate Plus is our small coach-to-skater ratio.

With no more than five skaters per coach, participants receive:

• More individual instruction

• More detailed feedback

• Increased practice opportunities

• Greater confidence as they learn new skills

Helmet Requirements

A CSA-approved hockey helmet is required for all skaters who have not yet passed CanSkate Stage 5.

Once a skater has successfully completed Stage 5, they may choose to skate without a helmet if they wish.

During this transition, some families choose to use an Ice Halo® for added confidence and head protection. Please note that an Ice Halo® does not replace the requirement for a CSA-approved hockey helmet for skaters who have not yet passed Stage 5.
