Skating Programs

We offer a variety of skating programs including learn-to-skate programs (PreCanSkate and CanSkate) and figure skating (STARSkate). As well, we have a new program, CanSkate Plus, designed to assist high level CanSkaters and new Junior STARSkaters to adjust to the STARSkate program and more independent skating.

STARSkaters and high level CanSkaters have the opportunity to compete in various competitions in Ontario and beyond as well as experience testing for skills, free skate and dances at Test Days. Throughout the season we offer a variety of special events like Skating with Santa, Family Skate, Halloween Dress Up, Wacky Clothes Day and more.

“Skaters of all ages learn best when they are active, engaged, moving, challenged, motivated and having fun. This is what CanSkate is all about!”  (Skate Canada)

Learn to Skate Programs - PreCanSkate, CanSkate, Teen CanSkate, Adult CanSkate & CanSkate Plus

PreCanSkate is a component of the CanSkate program and is not considered a separate program; rather it is a readiness vehicle to prepare skaters for CanSkate.  PreCanSkate is designed for those who need assistance to stand and walk on the ice. PreCanSkaters work on the essentials needed to move safely and effectively on the ice so that they can rotate to the different learning stations.

CanSkate, Teen CanSkate and Adult CanSkate is our Learn to Skate Program. A program geared to beginners of all ages. CanSkate offers basic skating instruction taught in a group lesson format by Skate Canada professional coaches who are assisted by trained Program Assistants (PAS). CanSkate is the foundation program for all Skate Canada Programs, figure skating, hockey, ringette, powerskating and speed skating programs.

CanSkate Plus is a program designed for the higher level CanSkater. This is for any skater who has passed stage 3 CanSkate. The skater will continue to develop their skills from the CanSkate program in a lower Skater to coach ratio.

Figure Skating Program - STARSkate

STARSkate is our figure skating program. It is designed to begin where CanSkate ends. Our STARSkate sessions are divided into 3 levels; Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating.  This program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/ or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives.  Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.  Skaters may also choose to enter competitions, while still trying Skate Canada tests.
